Last week Mitsubishi admitted to falsifying the fuel economy of four of their cars, two of which they made for Nissan. Since this information was released Mitsubishi has lost half of its market value. The standards they used for the fuel economy tests were more compliant with U.S. standards than with Japanese standards by basing the tests off of high-speed highway driving rather than city driving where stopping is more common.
It's not new that Mitsubishi was faking these results because they had previously released that they had been doing it since 2002. But this new information says that this falsification actually dates all they way back to 1991. Japanese authorities are investigating Mitsubishi's research and development facilities in which they will report their results in three months.
This has caused the transport ministry to set up a task force to look into how other automakers test the fuel economy of their cars.

I read this article because i thought it was interesting because gas mileage is one of the main reasons and so them lying about it is very bad because people bought there cars under false reasoning. This is important to modern world because it makes you wonder how many ther companies lie about there ads and statistics because there are so many out there and you know theu cant all be true. So i think this could be the start of companys getting #exposed
ReplyDeleteI think I think that a company as large as Mitsubishi should not lie about their products. If they can not be honest with one of their products, such as something as large and expensive as a vehicle, why should they be trusted? It also shows that they're most likely not alone in being a company that's not truthful, which is very impactful to today's society. It's necessary to show the truth behind the product that you're putting out on the market for many people to purchase. What happens if a function that you told the consumers your product would perform, doesn't perform to the standard the company said it would because they lied about that function in the first place? So it's needed for the modern world to know that companies can not be truthful about what they tell you. #facts
