Another one of Disney's beloved movies is going to be making it's big screen live-action debut. The Little Mermaid live-action adaption is going to be in production. Last October, Chloe Grace Moretz of The Fifth Wave and if i stay announced her casting as Ariel excitedly on Instagram.
Unfortunately, there is no news yet about who will play the other characters, such as Sebastian or Prince Eric. But, it is believed that the film will be more heavily based on the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale than the Disney animated movie according to News Corp Australia Network.
Originally Sofia Coppola was signed to direct the film but she departed last summer due to creative differences with the network. According to Slash Film, Coppola wanted no-name actress Maya Thurman-Hawke to play the mermaid, but Universal pushed for Moretz. It was announced in December that Rebecca Thomas will be the new director for the film, most known for her work with Electrick Children.
Currently the movie is being written by Love Actually's Richard Curtis but, there is no release date because the film has not gotten the green light from Universal Studios and Working Title.
